A Lake Country brunch spot that’s been around for 34 years is shutting its doors, but members of the community are trying to save it.
Wooden Nickel Cafe announced on Facebook on Monday, Apr. 8, that it would be closing due to the continuous rising costs in the hospitality industry, as well as dealing with broken equipment.
“Unfortunately we can’t afford to keep the lights on… literally,” the post says. “This shutdown could be any day so please come get your breakfast one more time before it happens.”
While the cafe hasn’t announced when the final day will be, the community immediately felt the impact and decided to try to do something about it.
On Tuesday, Apr. 9, a GoFundMe page was started in an attempt to save the cafe. A goal of $30,000 has been set and within seven hours, nearly $1,000 has been raised.
