Iron chefs do battle for charity
Some local chefs are cooking up support for a special group of children.
On Nov. 6, the Iron Chef event will raise funds for the North Okanagan Neurological Association at Turtle Mountain Vineyards off Bella Vista Road.
“The event will feature teams from Gumtree Catering and the Sprouted Fig,” said Amy Markin, Gumtree Catering marketing co-ordinator.
“Both teams will face off with five bonus ingredients, and one secret ingredient. Only one person will know the ingredient in advance, and it must be used in all five dishes to be prepared by each team.”
The secret ingredient will be revealed half-an-hour prior to cooking time and both teams will have half-an-hour to prepare.
Moms Making it Happen is the organization behind the second annual event.
Team Intermezzo edged Gumtree Catering by a half-point to win last year’s inaugural competition.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
Tickets can be purchased at the Bean Scene, the Sprouted Fig and Gumtree Catering.
The event opens at 4 p.m. to ticket holders for a private appetizer sampling. Wine will be available for purchase.
