Overdue fines increase at library branches

Okanagan Regional Library is increasing late fees on overdue items by five cents per day and reducing fees on children’s items by 15 cents per day.

“ORL is introducing a new late fee schedule on materials to bring it more in line with other library systems around the province,” said Marla O’Brien, public relations officer.

Starting Monday, late charges on most books, magazines, DVDs, and CDs will be 30 cents for each day overdue. The exceptions are QuickRead books and feature film DVDs which will continue to be $1 per day overdue.

“In response to customer comments concerning late fees on children’s materials, ORL has reduced these charges so all junior and young adult materials are only charged 10 cents per day when overdue,” said O’Brien.
