Finalists show Vernon spirit

The Downtown Vernon Association has announced the names of the four finalists for the 2012 Spirit of Downtown Vernon Award.

The finalists for this year are Briteland Holdings, Carousel Consignments, Fishers Hardware, and Nixon Wenger Lawyers.

“We have a really great group of candidates up for consideration this year,” said executive director Earl Hansen.

“Each of the finalists comes from a different segment of the business community and in their own way has contributed to making downtown the drawing card for local and regional customers it is today.”

The award was initiated by the DVA to honour a business for outstanding contributions to the downtown Vernon business community and its customers over the long term.

The criteria for the Spirit of Downtown Vernon Award is that candidate businesses must have been in operation downtown for 20 years or more, have helped raise the bar in terms of appearance/drawing power/service/impact, must reflect the historic character of downtown, be financially significant to the local economy, and have a record of involvement in and support of community activities.

The 2012 award will be presented at the DVA’s annual general meeting March 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Elks Hall.

Tickets for the dinner meeting are $20 each and are available at the DVA office.
