The annual Home for the Holidays - Downtown Light Up and Parade takes place Thursday.

It’s an evening of merriment that kicks off the Christmas season in Armstrong and Spallumcheen.

The annual Home for the Holidays - Downtown Light Up and Parade, sponsored by the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce, takes place Thursday.

“This will be an evening of fun for the whole family and it’s all free,” said Andrew Laird, president of the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to the annual parade, there will also be the official light up,  an opportunity to visit with Santa at Shepherd’s Outdoor Living Centre, road hockey with the North Okanagan Knights junior team, Spin the Wheel with BC Hydro and the Girl Guide cookie decorating booth in partnership with Country Bakery.

Local businesses and organizations will be offering refreshments and in-store specials as well as contests and giveaways during the day leading up to the parade.

The parade leave the Village Cheese Company at 6 p.m. and travels east on Pleasant Valley Road, then circles Spirit Square on Pleasant Valley Boulevard before heading to Village Cheese.

“Santa will arrive at  Spirit Square via transporation provided by Caravan Farm Theatre, and will flip the switch to signal the arrival of Christmas to Armstrong and Spallumcheen at about 6:30 p.m.,” said Laird.
