New location, new name.

Vernon’s Community Policing Office (also home to the Restorative Justice Society – Norrth Okanagan) is moving one block east from its current location at the old North Okanagan Youth and Family Services Society building on the corner of 32nd Avenue and 29th Street to a new site.

The office is moving permanently to the old Toppers Cleaners building at 3010-31st Avenue and, as of Thursday, will be known as the Community Safety Office.

“We are so looking forward to the move,” said safety office coordinator Rachael Zubick. “We will be right in the heart of downtown and we will be more accessible to the community and to the merchants and businesses. We will be right by the bus loop.”

The move is not expected to shut down the office.

“We’ll stay open as long as we can at the old office and we’ll have staff in both locations, but will have limited services in the new building until Thursday,” said Zubick.

As for the name change, Zubick said Community Safety Office will give the public a “better understanding of what we do.”

The phone numbers and e-mails remain the same: Zubick can be reached at 250-550-7842, and at rzubick@vernon.ca. Margaret Clark, who oversees the Restorative Justice Society office, can be contacted at 250-550-7846, or by e-mail at mclark@rjsno.ca.
