Three members of Vernon’s 223 Red Lion Air Cadet Squadron have received support for post-secondary education.

Wynn Sidwell, Riley McLaughlin, and Josiah Gaskell have each won $1,000 Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) Foundation bursaries.

The funds must be used toward post-secondary education or flying continuation.

Air Cadets are young Canadian teens aged 12 to 18.

“They have the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities and learn valuable life and work skills such as teamwork, leadership and citizenship,” states a release.

“Air cadets also have the opportunity to attend various summer training courses related to aviation and aviation trades, marksmanship, leadership, survival and music.”

Air cadets also have the opportunity to earn a glider pilot scholarship or power pilot scholarship.

Cadet training also offers credits towards high school graduation.
