Bands make music for Miracles
Musicians are once again banding together to help a worthy cause.
Fundraising for the third annual Miracles Start With You benefit concert started this past weekend with a yard sale.
“We’ve had a hard time getting sponsors for the concert this year, so we held a yard sale at my home,” said Dave Fletcher, vocalist with Vernon band Shattered Tone who organizes the annual event. “We had everything donated.”
This year’s event, to be held at Paddlewheel Hall in Okanagan Landing Nov. 3, will benefit the B.C. Breast Cancer Foundation.
Last year, the Miracles concert helped out Big Brothers and Sisters and the year before was a benefit for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.
Fletcher says he has chosen the charities for specific reasons.
“Both our bass player and myself have wives that have been affected by breast cancer,” he said. “I was also a Little Brother when I was younger, and I was born with stomach complications and the Children’s Wish Foundation got involved with me as we were unsure if I would make it. So I thought it was time I started giving back.”
The event also gives Okanagan bands some well-deserved exposure, he added.
Shattered Tone will headline the concert, which also features local band Lefty, Vancouver’s Oral Compensation, Kelowna band Gorgeous Priceless, Kelowna heavy metal band Helcion, Vernon’s Unity Music and local guitarist Manfred Harter.
Miracles Start With You starts at Paddlewheel Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 at 30th Street Liquor Store or call 307-4873. The event is licensed (no minors.)
