Cockburn to headline 2013 Roots and Blues
The folks at the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues festival office have announced Bruce Cockburn is joining the lineup of performers this summer.
A folk icon, guitar genius, musical maestro and tireless activist with an extraordinary career that has spanned four decades, Cockburn has produced an acclaimed body of work including 31 albums that have sold over seven million copies worldwide.
The Ottawa-born inductee into the Order of Canada and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, as well as winner of 13 Juno awards, has an impressive body of work to say the least.
His music has travelled to all socio- and political parts of the world, from folk anthems such as Waiting for the Country and Wondering Where the Lions Are, to more rock-charged songs such as Call it a Democracy, If I Had a Rocket Launcher, The Trouble with Normal, If a Tree Falls, and his 1984 hit Lovers in a Dangerous Time.
Cockburn’s latest CD, 2011’s Small Source of Comfort, is a collection of songs of romance, protest and spiritual discovery. The album, primarily acoustic yet rhythmically savvy, is rich in Cockburn’s characteristic blend of folk, blues, jazz and rock.
