On the 30th anniversary of its release in 1984, The Wailers will be touring the U.S. and Canada in 2014, performing the iconic album Legend in its entirety.

Last seen in Vernon at the now defunct Komasket Music Festival in July, 2010, the famed reggae band that backed the legendary Bob Marley will perform at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre March 15.

Named by Time Magazine as the Best Album of the 20th Century and No. 46 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Legend is also the best-selling reggae album of all-time, with more than 30 million copies sold worldwide.

Together with Marley, The Wailers have sold more than 250 million albums and have played to an estimated 24 million people across the globe.

The anchor of the band is Aston “Family Man” Barrett, who was co-producer on many of Marley’s records and was responsible for almost all of the bass lines on Marley’s hits.

Produced by On The Road Productions, the Vernon concert will feature opening act Shane Philip, whose didgeridoo holds the power to still listeners into silence or encourage audiences to rise up in a tribal swell of intoxicating spirit.

Meanwhile, his hands will be skillfully juggling between shaking up rhythms with his aslatua, driving the dance floor with his djembe and sliding out grooves on his Weissenborn-style guitar, while his foot taps in earthshaking electronic kicks wherever they might fit.

The Wailers’ 30 Years of Legend tour with guest Philip is at the Performing Arts Centre March 15 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $48.50, on sale now through Ticket Seller,  250-549-7469, ticketseller.ca.
