The Vernon Film Society’s first film of the 2017 winter season is  Truman.

It shows at the normal regular times of  5:15  and 7:45 p.m.   Monday at the Vernon Towne Cinema.

Two childhood friends are reunited after years without seeing one another.  Separated by the Atlantic Ocean, the two friends have made their lives on different continents, but when they meet again, it feels like they’ve never been apart.

Julian and Tomas will spend a few unforgettable days together — laughing, reminiscing and crying because their reunion is also their last goodbye.

Truman is an elegy to friendship and love.  It’s a humourous and honest portrait of the courage it takes to accept that death is just another part of life.

The Argentine/Spanish film, which features subtitles, received the 2016 GOYA Awards for best actor, best director and best film, and the 2016 Gaudi Awards for best film, best supporting actress and actor, best male lead and best director.

“A clean-lined, sensitively-written and beautifully played two-hander that tackles complex issues in a refreshingly straightforward, downbeat way,” says the Hollywood Reporter.

All films are at the  Vernon Town Cinema,  2910 30th Ave. All tickets  are $7, cash only. Advance tickets are available at the  Bean Scene Coffee House  across from the theatre, and at the theatre.

The VFS is partnered with the  Film Circuit,  presented by the  Toronto International Film Festival and its sponsors.
