Snak the Ripper rises to the top of his game
Vancouver-based rapper and cult icon Snak The Ripper makes his return to Vernon’s Status Nightclub Saturday.
“Snak has created a huge following in the Okanagan and always draws a large crowd,” said show promoter Josh Brazier, with Vernon’s 13th Floor Entertainment.
Snak the Ripper has seen major success with his last two albums.
White Dynamite, released in 2012, spent almost three weeks at #2 on iTunes hip hop/rap charts and sold nearly 10,000 digital albums and more than 22,000 singles.
Last year’s release, From The Dirt, came out in the midst of Snak’s beef with fellow Canadian rapper Mad Child (who happens to play Status Nightclub Feb. 24).
“The ensuing war of words pushed Snak to the forefront of the rap game and propelled his name and record label to new heights,” said Brazier.
Snak represents the true underdog story, from homeless and struggling with drug addiction to cult phenomenon with his own record label Stealth Bomb Records.
“I realized that my style was very different than what’s been done in Vancouver. I took a risk,” Snak told The Chronicle Journal newspaper in Thunder Bay last May. “I realized that I was a black sheep style-wise and it worked for me. I felt like I was the medium between hip hop styles. Vancouver helped me realize who I was and accept my own style. You just have to be yourself and do what you do. As long as you’re genuine, people will notice.”
Snak the Ripper has shared the stage with notable artists such as Macklemore, Raekwon, Classified, and Tech N9ne to name a few. He heads off on a European tour in the coming months. Future plans also include writing a book.
Also performing Saturday is 13th Floor’s versatile and highly-skilled DJ Scuba Steve and one of Stealth Bomb’s newest additions, Junk, who has been seasoning his pen game and making his mark on the underbelly of the West Coast rap game since the age of 13. His latest album, I.A.N (I Am No One) is his most well-rounded and honest bodied work to date, said Brazier.
