Artists, bidders needed for Almost Famous auction
With the move into its new location, Gallery Vertigo is counting on community support for its annual fundraiser.
The Almost Famous auction will once again feature locally-created reproductions of famous and some more obscure artworks - from classical, renaissance, and post-modern by Canadian and international artists.
“The gallery has received approximately 20 pieces so far, including some reserved from last year’s auction,” said gallery coordinator David Macri, himself an artist who moved to Vernon from Winnipeg two years ago.
“This year we have a broader scope in that artists can reference a famous style or artist. We have been soft on the rules. If someone wants to enter something original, that would be good too.”
The deadline for submissions has been extended to Feb. 24 and artworks can be dropped off at the current gallery location, upstairs in the Winnipeg Union Bank building at 31st Street and 30th Avenue. Work submitted can also be seen at that location.
The Almost Famous fundraiser will be held in the gallery’s new location at #102-3105 28th Ave. from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26.
Alfie Seidl, proprietor of next door’s A&E Community Market and Consignment Centre, will serve as auctioneer while musical entertainment will be provided by a number of local acts, including Lune and Tide and the J Solemn Band as well as solo performances by Jayme McKillop and Lowell Friesen and their duo, Ginger and Rose.
Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the Bean Scene coffee house. Contact the gallery at 250-503-2297, or visit galleryvertigo.com for more information.
