Armstrong theatre opens doors to Staff Room

Hilarious, poignant play featuring 16 actors in a myriad of roles put on by Asparagus Community Theatre

A North Okanagan theatre troupe is about to expose what goes on behind those closed doors in every high school across Canada.

Armstrong’s Asparagus Community Theatre presents Staff Room, written by Canadian playwright Joan Burrows.

Staff Room is a two-act play that takes place in the bustling staff room of a seemingly ordinary high school on any given day, where the stage is set to a hilarious and heartfelt comedy.

“With 15 distinct scenes brought to life by a dynamic cast of 16 actors embodying 55 diverse characters, Staff Room offers a captivating glimpse into the human condition over the course of a school year,” said Julie Drapala, who is directing the play.

“Amidst the chaos of hormones, the whispers of gossip, the sting of betrayal, and the everyday balance of work and family, this play navigates through moments both awkward and tender, crafting a tapestry of laughter and poignancy that resonates after the final curtain falls.”

Staff Room will run Thursday, May 2 to Saturday, May 4, and May 9 to 11, at 7:30 p.m., at Armstrong’s Centennial Hall. There will be a special matinee performance Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available online through ticketowl.io or in person (cash only) at the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce.
