The large lawn of one of Coldstream’s most famed historic homes is about to be filled with music revellers when the Music at Mackie summer concert series starts up for the season.
Vernon rock band Feet First is the first act lined up for the series Friday.
“We loved this band so much we invited them back to kick off our Music at Mackie for 2016,” said Mackie Lake House manager Christine Kashuba.
Feet First started playing together approximately eight years ago as a cover band. The band’s motto has always been “classic rock played right.”
Known for re-creating original cover songs and putting their own spin on them, the band’s musical influences include The Doobie Brothers, Yes, Rush, Ry Cooder, Steely Dan and powerhouse acts such as The Rolling Stones and The Who.
Although the band members’ musical backgrounds vary from folk to alternative rock, their aim is to have people listening, singing and dancing to music they recognize and enjoy.
Original members, lead vocalist Dave Thackray and drummer Clint Batchelor, are joined by Dave Moore, who came over from England six years ago and brings his talents on electric guitar and an ear for detail.
“He brings a definitive English influence to the selection of songs as well as an international flavour to the band,” said Thackray.
Other member Mason Guetter, who originally joined the band five years ago as a bass player, has since moved on as second lead guitar and keyboardist.
“Robby MacAlpine joined us in January, 2015 and has brought his solid foundation and reputation as bass player,” added Batchelor.
Visitors to the Music at Mackie summer concert series can pack up their favourite picnic supper, bring their lawn chairs, and enjoy the music while dining al fresco on the lawns overlooking Kalamalka Lake at the historic home.
Ticket holders can also pre-order a Basket Case catered picnic supper for $22.50 and pick it up when they arrive.
Friday’s menu includes roasted garlic scape pesto chicken breast with definitely dilly potato salad and a double Callebaut chocolate mini molten cake with berry compote for dessert.
