As many non-profit groups know, fundraising is a lot of work. The community has the perception that donors are waiting in the wings with large cheques for worthy causes, but, like the squeaky wheel which gets the most grease, the most visible non-profits also get the most donations. However, the smaller organizations know how to stretch their dollars and donations to maximum effect.

New Hope for Widow/ers and Their Families has been active in Vernon and the Okanagan for 20 years and maintains an office in the People Place, which is the centre of our support groups and social gatherings. Funding for rent, telephone, internet, and part-time staff comes from membership fees and donations from the community, businesses and some churches.

Our annual fundraiser takes place Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at Vernon Christian Fellowship, 4507-29 St., Vernon. The evening includes entertainment by Vernon’s Backyard Band, a silent auction, and refreshments. Admission is $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Contact the New Hope office at 250-545-6004 or newhope.bc.ca@gmail.com to reserve your advance ticket.

Proceeds from this fundraiser will continue to support the work of New Hope with widows and widowers in our community, allowing them to work through their grief in a safe and caring environment. Find out more at http://newhope-grief.org/ and plan to attend the auction and benefit concert, for your own fun and to benefit the bereaved in our area.
