For The Morning Star

As Silver Star Resort approaches its 60th anniversary in 2018, Silver Star Museum volunteers are busy preparing summer exhibits that run the gamut from recreation to mountain culture. Expanding and improving every year, this year’s Main Street location in Silver Star village promises to be better than ever.

This year’s theme will include a celebration of Silver Star pioneers, the founders whose vision and dedication created the ski, ride, bike, and hike heaven now enjoyed by thousands year-round. Equipment from the early years will be highlighted, featuring a display of skis used from 1890 to 1950. Drop by and wonder how the heck did anyone ever ski on those long, straight-sided wooden contraptions.

But Silver Star is also all about getting outside. Special events include Warner Gruenwald’s Geology and Mining History Walk on Sunday and Silver Star resident Trish Reid’s Introduction to Bird Watching Guided Walk on July 9. Local artist Ginny Hall is hosting two sessions called Introduction to Nature Art for eight to 12 year-olds on July 9 and Aug. 6. Mary Leah de Zwart and Mary Anna Cimbaro will be on hand July 30 to lead a tour of The Painted Ladies of Silver Star, a close-up look at the architecture of the houses on The Knoll. And, Silver Star Museum’s driving force, Linda Peterat, will host a guided walk, Building a Resort – Day Lodge to Village Aug. 13.

The museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day from July 1 to Sept. 4. We invite you to like the Silver Star Mountain Museum page on Facebook and visit it often for updates. For further information or registration for any of the events or tours, email silverstarmuseum@gmail.com.
