Friends light candles around the world
The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting Memorial Service is held annually on the second Sunday in December and unites family and friends who light candles, at 7 p.m., for one hour to honour and remember children who have died at any age from any cause. As candles burn down in one time zone, they are lit in the next, creating a virtual wave of light around the world.
The worldwide candle lighting allows grieving families to know that their children have not been and never will be forgotten, whether that child died 60 years ago or yesterday. This event surpasses all artificial, religious and cultural boundaries, allowing parents to mourn as one the loss of their children.
The Vernon/North Okanagan Compassionate Friends will be hosting their first Worldwide Candle Lighting Memorial Service on Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Paddlewheel Park Hall on Okanagan Lake in Vernon. Anyone wishing to honour the memory of a lost child, grandchild, sibling or friend is invited to be a part of the 16th Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting Memorial Service. Candles will be provided. You are invited to bring along a picture of your child for our “Children Remembered” table. For more information, please contact Kelli Rose at 250-379-2465 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you plan to attend or would like to offer some assistance, please call Darlene at 250-558-5026 or e-mail at Vernon@tcfcanada.net.
