Armed robbery suspect arrested
Thanks to surveillance tape within the business, Vernon RCMP were able to make an arrest in connection with an armed robbery Saturday night.
Police were called to the Aloha Coin Wash and Dry Cleaning in the 2800 block of 34th Street just before 9 p.m.
“A man entered the premises, produced a knife and demanded cash from the employees,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
Two employees were working at the time and there were no customers.
The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Officers looked at the video surveillance tape and, a short time later, a 28-year-old man – known to police – was arrested near his downtown Vernon residence.
“There was not a lot of attempt to disguise his face,” said Molendyk of the image of the suspect on the tapes.
The man was taken into custody where he remained Monday.
No knife was found by police, who continue to investigate the robbery.
