Storm sewer contract awarded
Storm sewer upgrades in Enderby are underway one project at a time.
Council has approved a $241,687 contract for Postill Nixon Earthworks to improve the storm sewer on Regent Avenue from Brickyard Road to the pump station.
“I’m glad we’re moving quickly on it,” said Dee Wejr, the outgoing mayor.
“The situation can’t be left. We don’t ever want to have flooding like we had this year.”
Existing storm sewer lines were unable to keep up with torrential rain during the summer and extensive flooding occurred in some homes and businesses.
Since then, the city has hired a consultant to examine the issue and besides Regent Avenue, a number of other upgrades are expected when funding is available.
“We will get this portion done and keep moving forward,” said Coun. Howie Cyr, who will be sworn in as mayor Dec. 5.
“It’s a big ticket item and we need to work hard to come up with grant funds to assist us (with the cost).”
For the Regent Avenue work, Postill Nixon Earthworks was the lowest of six bids received by the city. The highest bid was $317,106.
