Dry conditions force Enderby to ban camp fires
More local communities are stomping out camp fires because of dry conditions.
The City of Enderby has implemented a campfire ban to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.
“The area is extremely dry and there is a high risk of forest fires,” said Kevin Alstad, fire chief.
The prohibition does not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or to a portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC rating that uses briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel as long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres.
Besides Enderby, there are also campfire bans in Armstrong, Spallumcheen, Lumby, Vernon, the Regional District of North Okanagan, Lake Country and the North Westside Road area.
The Ministry of Forests has banned camp fires in B.C. Parks, Crown land and in areas not served by a fire department.
