Pickup truck hits fence, deck
A drive home ended badly for a Vernon man Wednesday.
The 19-year-old was westbound on Okanagan Landing Road in his 1977 GMC pickup truck shortly before 2 a.m. when police report he fell asleep at the wheel.
The truck went off-road left into the ditch, through a fence and continuing onto a property in the 7200 block of Okanagan Landing Road.
“The vehicle glanced off the house on the property, destroying the front deck and taking out the gas meter,” said Gord Molendyk, spokesperson for the RCMP.
The pickup – now without its brakes and steering – continued on through another small ditch, ran over a stop sign, crossed Okanagan Landing Road again, went over a rock landscape and came to rest after crashing into the back of an unoccupied 2012 Ford F350 pickup truck.
Fire crews turned off the leaking natural gas at the home.
Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the incident.
The driver was uninjured but he was ticketed by police for driving without due care and attention.
