Parks peace looming in Greater Vernon

A long-standing feud in Greater Vernon may be coming to an end.

Representatives from Vernon, Coldstream and the two electoral areas signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday to restructure the parks service.

"It's historic and should bring peace to the valley," said Trafford Hall, Regional District of North Okanagan administrator, who facilitated the discussions.

Under the deal, some parks would remain regional in scope and be funded by all participants. However, most would revert to their individual jurisdictions for control and maintenance.

"I'm happy with the way it's going," said Mike Macnabb, BX-Silver Star director.

The memorandum of understanding must still be ratified by Coldstream and Vernon councils and the RDNO board. If that occurs, bylaws will be amended to reflect the new structure.
