Gang member sentenced
A B.C. Supreme Court justice has sentenced a third member of the North Okanagan gang referred to by police as The Greeks to life in prison for his role in drug-related killings.
Sheldon O’Donnell was sentenced by justice Bill Smart after being found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Ronald Thom in 2005, and second-degree murder in connection with the killings of David Marnuik and Thomas Bryce in 2004.
The first-degree murder charge has a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no chance for parole for 25 years.
The second-degree murder convictions also carry a mandatory life sentence, and Smart imposed no parole eligibility for 18 years.
Last month, following the jury verdict, two other members of the gang — Dale Sipes and Leslie Podolski — received life sentences with no parole eligibility for 25 years.
In November, fellow gang members Dale Sipes and Leslie Podolski received life sentences with no chance of parole for 25 years after each was found guilty of first-degree murder.
Sipes was convicted for the deaths of Marnuik and Thom, Poldolski was found guilty for the death of Marnuik.
Two other members found guilty in connection with the killings, Pete Manolakos and Douglas Brownell, will be sentenced in 2013.
Manolakos was found guilty of first-degree murder and manslaughter, Brownell was found guilty on two counts of manslaughter.
