Plans have been unveiled to finish the top two floors of  Vernon Jubilee Hospital’s Polson tower.

It was announced Thursday that $29.6 million will be spent on adding 60 beds — 14 of them new and the remainder relocating from existing wards.

“Finishing the top two floors will greatly improve capacity at the Vernon Jubilee  Hospital, while also increasing patient comfort, privacy and safety,” said Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid.

Construction should begin in the fall, with the project completed by the summer of 2015.

Thursday’s announcement will see the total number of  beds at VJH increase from 148 to 162.
