There have been further developments at a residence in the 7800 block of Highway 97 in Vernon.

"One person came out of the house and our members are talking to them about the incident," said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

"A second person remains in the house. Police are still trying to talk to the individual."

It is still unknown why the RCMP received a disturbance call which led officers to converge on the residence.

Vernon RCMP have converged on a residence in the Swan Lake area of Vernon.

At about 6 p.m., emergency personnel received a disturbance call from a home in the 7800 block of Highway 97. When officers arrived on scene, individuals in the yard went inside the home.

Since then, officers have been keeping in contact with the individuals inside.

"It's not confirmed as a hostage-taking," said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

"It sounds like an individual that doesn't want to come out of the home and is arguing with police. Officers are trying to bring this to a successful conclusion."

Despite some rumours circulating around, Molendyk says, "There are no reports of shots fired."

RCMP say traffic is being rerouted as precaution only due to close proximity of the highway.

More details will be posted as they become available.
