Vernon RCMP have converged on a residence in the Swan Lake area of Vernon.

At about 6 p.m., emergency personnel received a disturbance call from a home in the 7800 block of Highway 97. When officers arrived on scene, individuals in the yard went inside the home.

Since then, officers have been keeping in contact with the individuals inside.

"It's not confirmed as a hostage-taking," said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

"It sounds like an individual that doesn't want to come out of the home and is arguing with police. Officers are trying to bring this to a successful conclusion."

Despite some rumours circulating around, Molendyk says, "There are no reports of shots fired."

RCMP say traffic is being rerouted as precaution only due to close proximity of the highway.

More details will be posted as they become available.
