Residents invited to get informed on sports complex
Greater Vernon residents can learn more about a proposed sports complex next to Okanagan College.
An information session on the planned running track and sports field will be held at the Schubert Centre Friday at 10 a.m.
“It’s an opportunity for people to find out about the planning that’s gone into this and people can ask questions,” said Tannis Nelson, with the Regional District of North Okanagan.
Residents will be asked April 6 to authorize the borrowing of $7.5 million to construct a sports complex, with the funds repaid over 20 years.
Among the details that will be available Friday are the reasons behind the location, projected annual operating costs and the impact on taxpayers.
“The user needs assessment will also be shared,” said Nelson.
Regional district officials have also been meeting with local organizations to make them aware of the sports complex proposal and the referendum.
“We have received a favourable response from the groups we have presented to so far,” said Nelson.
A public information session will also be held at the Village Green Centre March 23 and 24.
Sports complex details can be found at www.rdno.ca/communitysportsfacility.
