Coldstream firefighters respond to residential blaze
Quick action from the Coldstream and Lavington fire departments kept a blaze from spreading Wednesday.
Crews were called to a home in the 7400 block of Priest Valley Drive at about 6:40 p.m.
“There was heavy black smoke at the rear of the building and flames were showing,” said Shane Code, Coldstream fire chief.
“We had to move fast. We had good access and the weather was working in our favour. Visibility was zero inside because of the thick black smoke.”
The fire was kept to the rear of the house.
“If you looked at the front of the building, you can’t tell there was a fire,” said Code.
The two occupants were able to leave the home safely and they have insurance.
“Emergency Social Services arrived to take care of them,” said Code.
It’s believed the fire began in the kitchen but a cause has not been determined yet.
