Lumby keeps with regional planning
Lumby continues to have confidence in a regional service.
While Armstrong wants to withdraw from the Regional District of North Okanagan’s planning function, Lumby has agreed to another five-year contract.
“They have always provided a good service and the planners know the area,” said Kevin Acton, the village’s mayor.
The contract costs less than $30,000 a year and Acton believes that is more affordable than the village hiring its own staff.
“You’d be looking at double the cost,” he said.
Acton says RDNO has also adjusted its service to address issues of workload.
“Instead of stacking up in the queue behind 20 projects (from across the region), each municipality will have its own queue,” said Acton.
“We can set our own priorities and move them around.”
The City of Armstrong has stated it will withdraw from the regional program because it does not believe it is receiving sufficient service for its funds.
