Vernon RCMP seek information on hit-and-run incident
A hit-and-run accident Thursday night sent a Vernon woman to hospital, and have the RCMP asking for the public’s help.
A 34-year-old woman suffered lacerations to her leg after she was hit by a vehicle in the downtown core at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Police, though, did not become aware of the incident until 5 a.m. Friday.
“She did not report the events earlier as she was under the influence of alcohol and she thought she was okay,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
The woman said she attempted to run across the street at 32nd Street and 28th Avenue when she was struck by an unknown vehicle.
“The victim told officers she was crossing the road with a bag full of empty cans at the time, and it ripped apart with the cans falling on the street,” said Molendyk.
“Our officers have been able to piece that part of the puzzle together by making patrols and finding some of the empty cans on the road near 27th Avenue and Coldstream Avenue.”
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment of her leg injuries and it was ambulance personnel who alerted RCMP to the incident.
Unfortunately, the woman did not get any description of the vehicle that hit her.
The Vernon RCMP office is asking anyone who may have been involved in this incident or may have seen the incident around 10:30 p.m. Thursday to please call them at 250-545-7171.
