City seeks local flood knowledge
Enderby officials don’t want flooding concerns left in the hands of out-of-town bureaucrats.
City council is supporting calls for the provincial government to initiate flooding mitigation along Ashton Creek in the adjacent rural area.
However, the city wants a community-based solution to upgrades.
“There’s a lot of local knowledge that could solve these issues before the problem gets too great,” said Coun. Greg McCune.
“We don’t want an engineer in Vancouver that comes up with an elaborate system and nothing happens. Touch base with the locals and we want some common sense.”
The provincial government has indicated that the Regional District of North Okanagan must conduct a feasibility study on possible flood mitigation on the creek.
While RDNO will prepare a report on the ramifications of remediation, some politicians and staff have stated that any work is a provincial responsibility.
