Fun in the Sun tourney tees up funds for charity
Hot scores and hot weather made for a perfect day at the 21st Annual New Car Dealers of Vernon Fun in the Sun Charity Golf Tournament Sunday at the Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club.
Nearly 100 golfers turned out and together raised $13,720 to be split between the Vernon Women’s Transition House Society and the Whitevalley Community Resource Centre.
“It was an easy choice for us this year,” said Brian Westwell of Vernon Nissan, president of the New Car Dealers Association of Vernon, “since we all felt very passionate about these two causes.”
There was a tie for first place with a score of 11 under par. However team Toyota 1 clinched it with the lower score on the back nine.
The winning team was comprised of Tim Proctor, Dave Rehill, Marty Steele and Ron Van Kampen.
Coming in a very respectable second place was Vernon Hyundai 1 with Steve Birbilis, Adam Bright, Mike McCurrach and Adrian Wyant.
Third place honours went to Adesa, made up of Dennis Beaton, Brian McHale, Roger Mushaluk and Wayne Penner.
With a time of 35 seconds, the winners of the Speed Round (fastest time getting ball from tee into hole on par-4 fourth) was Watkin Ford 2 comprised of Brandyn Dixon, Kalynda Hampshire, Scott Morrice and Roxanne Pippolo.
KP winners, in no particular order, were Dave Rehill, John Domingos, Adrian Wyant, John Van Dyke, Scott Young, Russ Sheperd, Angela Sparrow, Melissa Skelton, Ron Van Kampen, Cal Seimens and Garett Stripzenberger.
Ladies Longest Drive was taken by Kim Slattery for the women, and John Van Dyke for the men.
“The members of the New Car Dealers Association of Vernon would like to sincerely thank all of their donors from the hole sponsors and the players to the auction and door prize contributors,” said event coordinator LeeAnn Louis.
“This event and the funds it is able to provide to the community would not be possible without their tremendous support.”
