Police target drug traffickers
Approximately 280 sales of heroin have been kept off Vernon’s streets thanks to the latest RCMP crackdown.
Members from the Targeted Policing Unit completed an investigation Monday into drug trafficking by several people in Vernon.
“Our officers arrested two men in a vehicle that were operating a dial a dope operation,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.
As a result of those arrests a search warrant was obtained for an apartment in the 4100 block of Alexis Park Drive. Police have three males and one female in custody as a result of this investigation.
A 21 year old male was found in possession of cocaine and heroin packaged for sale away from the residence. The search inside the apartment located approximately one ounce of heroin as well as other related drug trafficking paraphernalia.
The other two men and one woman are between 30 and 33 years of age from the Vernon area.
All four people were released before a Justice of the Peace for a court date in 2014.
“The investigators commented that an ounce or 28 grams of heroin is typically packaged into 280 - tenth or 0.1 gram portions for sale on the street,” said Molendyk. “Though one ounce might seem like a small number it prevented approximately 280 sales of heroin on the streets of Vernon.”
