Kettle donations matched
Vernon residents have a chance to double their generosity for neighbours in need.
On Saturday, all donations received by the Salvation Army kettle at Walmart will be matched by the retailer.
“We will have kettles in front of each entrance at Walmart,” said David MacBain, community ministries director with the Salvation Army.
Walmart’s involvement comes at the same time that the local kettle and mail-out campaign has raised $215,000. That is 47 per cent of its $461,000 goal.
All of the money goes towards operation of the food bank as well as other initiatives that help residents in need.
Anyone wanting to donate to the Salvation Army can go to vernonbcfoodbank.com or stop by the Salvation Army thrift stores, the food bank at 3303 32nd Ave. or the Talkin Donkey coffee house.
