Vernon's Vasek Pospisil has advanced to the second round of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tennis event of 2014.

Pospisil, seeded 29th, defeated unseeded Samuel Groth of Australia in straight sets Monday, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.
