Lavington fire doused quickly

It didn’t take long for firefighters to get a blaze under control at Lavington’s Tolko mill.

Lavington and Coldstream firefighters responded to reports of a blaze in a sawdust bin just after midnight Tuesday.

“One of the conveyor belts also caught on fire,” said Mike Fiset, Lavington fire chief.

“We were able to put it out fairly quickly. The fire was in a bin so there was no risk of exposure.”

In fact, the only challenge was ice on the ground and cold weather.

“Some of the gear was freezing up from the mist from the hose,” said Fiset.
