Accident closes down Highway 97 in Vernon

UPDATE: Highway 97 at 25th Avenue is now open (8:45 a.m.)

A northbound portion of Highway 97 remains closed to traffic after an accident early Thursday morning.

The RCMP received a report at 5:32 a.m. of a cyclist coming out of an alley behind the Fruit Union Plaza. The cyclist collided with a northbound vehicle on 32nd Street (the highway).

The RCMP continue their investigation and, as a result, that section of the highway is closed. According to DriveBC.ca, the estimated time of the highway reopening is 8:30 a.m.

The cyclist was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.
