Stars crank up Midget offence

The Lumby Stars cranked up their offence in North Okanagan Midget Super Hockey League weekend action at Pat Duke Memorial Arena.

The speedy Stars used a relentless forecheck, sparked by Jayden Pederson and Wyatt Warnes, to smother the Vernon Seed Orchard Snakes 7-2 Saturday morning and dust off the Vernon Authentic Plaque & Trophy Autobots 11-5 Sunday afternoon.

Warnes and Kyle Weston each pulled hat tricks and added two helpers as Lumby (10-4)  stopped the Snakes. Reid Hackett added a single. Logan Meier and Pedersen each earned two assists.

Landon Munk and d-man Chase Larsen replied for the fourth-place Snakes (9-5-1).

The Stars enjoyed a hearty breakfast at Darren and Peggy Schepp-Warnes’ homestead Sunday morning and then toasted the Autobots.

Warnes and Sexton again rung up 3+2 apiece, while Meier earned 1+3, Zach Kuperus counted 1+2 and other snipes came from Pedersen, Jack O’Neill and Kyle Beerstra. Connor Fair provided two helpers in support of Jake Holland.

Lucas Mitchell (2), captain Liam Curran,  Kristian Currie and Josh Lerbeck answered for the Autobos (5-6-3), who got two assists from Brock Wagner.

Lee Brodoway had 1+2 as the Autobots clipped the North Okanagan Knights 5-4 Saturday night at Priest Valley Arena.

Lane Heideman, with a sweet breakaway move, Wagner, Curran and Isaiah Wenger also tallied for the Autobots.

Speedster Darryl Fiddler scored twice for the 3-9-2 Knights, singles going to Tim Bartiel and James Krahn.

Munk and Chris Gallant supplied 2+1 each as the Snakes toppled the Talon Benefits Winterhawks 8-2 Sunday night.

Jeff Hiscoe pocketed 1+2, while Larsen, Ryan Buick and Tim Ufimtseff rounded out the attack. Captain Austin Bosquet bagged three helpers and Nikolai Negraiff had a pair. Bryton Stead scored twice for the Winterhawks (4-10-1) with Richard Thompson getting two assists.

Parker Wadsworth, captain Rowyn Lewis-Hatherley and Stead each added earned 2+1 as the Winterhawks abushed the Winfield Bruins 7-2  Saturday at Kal Tire Place.

Brian Ferguson scored once for the Hawks, while Thompson and Brennan Seltzer each netted two helpers.

Salmon Arm Blackburn Excavating surprised the first-place Nedco Coyotes 12-7 Saturday at the Shaw Centre. Adam Roemer (3), Brett Shaigec (2) and Aaron Kerryluke  scored for Nedco (13-1-1).
