Leadership has evolved at the Regional District of North Okanagan.

Vice-chairperson Rick Fairbairn has assumed the duties held by chairperson Patrick Nicol, who died Jan. 15.

"There are a number of issues he was working on," said Fairbairn of Nicol.

Fairbairn cannot be referred to as chairperson because provincial legislation only allows the board to elect a chairperson at the first meeting of December in a calendar year.

When Fairbairn is not available for board meetings, directors will have to select a member to chair the session.

Fairbairn opened Wednesday's board meeting by reflecting on Nicol's contributions.

"We will all miss his supportive presence in our organization. He was a booster of the good work done for our regional citizens," said Fairbairn.
