Vernon RCMP track down stolen vehicle

Vernon RCMP are asking the public for help in regards to a stolen vehicle incident.

RCMP received a report of a stolen truck shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday from Rocky Mountain Transport, in the 2900 block of 41st Avenue.

“The caller told police thieves broke a window to gain entry into the business and located a box of keys belonging to trucks parked in the yard,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

A 1999 black Chevy pickup had been stolen.

Officers spotted the vehicle a short time later in the area of 36th Avenue and 33rd Street as one person got into the truck.

“Our officers tried to stop the truck but it sped off at a high rate of speed,” said Molendyk. “Our officers did not pursue it.”

The truck was recovered late Thursday afternoon in the 3300 block of 22nd Street. No arrest was made.

Anyone with any information about the theft is asked to call the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
