A Vernon athlete is remaining upbeat despite crashing at the Winter Olympics.

Kevin Hill finished second in the snowboard cross small final and eighth overall.

Hill went on to finish second in the small final to place eighth overall.

"Coming here and racing in the Olympics, I treat it just like another race," Hill told CBC Sports.

"I know it's a bigger  picture than that. I was calm, collected and I had a blast."

The gold medal was won by Pierre Vaultier of France.

Weather won't stop a Vernon resident's debut at the Winter Olympics.

Kevin Hill will compete in snowboard cross today at 10:30 p.m. in Sochi, Russia, The event was cancelled earlier in the day because of fog.

The races will begin with the heats, with Hill included in the first group.

Vernon's Kevin Hill will have to wait to try and win an Olympic medal.

The snowboard cross event was cancelled today at Sochi, Russia because of poor weather.

"Race cancelled due to heavy fog, it's alright because I'm ready to go! Hopefully tomorrow we will run qualifiers," said Hill on Twitter.

Hill is making his Olympic debut, narrowly missing a spot on the team for the 2010 Games in Vancouver/Whistler.
