Former Vernon Mountie ordered to stand trial on child pornography charges

A former Vernon RCMP officer has been ordered to stand trial in relation to child pornography charges.

Ryan David Hampton, 35, is, according to court documents, facing nine counts in relation to his arrest in the spring of 2013.

He is charged with one count of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography, one count of obstructing justice and six counts of failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking.

A preliminary inquiry wrapped up in Vernon Provincial Court Tuesday with the judge declaring there was enough evidence to go to trial.

Hampton was suspended from duty and his sidearm and police identification were seized after his arrest. Vernon RCMP confirmed he has since resigned from the force.

Hampton will have his matter heard in Supreme Court.

A date for the trial will be fixed on April 14.
