Charges laid in case

Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP have confirmed they are involved in a child pornography investigation.

The investigation began in mid-February when the detachment was alerted to the alleged suspect by officers from the B.C. Integrated Child Exploitation Unit.

“The Vernon-North Okanagan Detachment will confirm that no children from this area were harmed,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“As the matter is before the courts, we will not be speaking any further on the investigation.”

Molendyk said the public is reminded that if they see suspected child pornography material, or possibly child exploitation, they can report it at Cybertip.ca.

Rylan Keith Sandberg, 46, made his first court appearance in Vernon Thursday. He is facing three charges: importing or distributing child pornography; possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.

Sandberg’s next court appearance has been put over until April.
