And the nominees are....

Margit Schratter, Joanne Kineshanko, Patti Wood, Coleen Noel and Beth Marks have been nominated for the 2014 Woman of the Year award.

“The Woman of the Year honours women in the community who display leadership in business, volunteering and the community,” said Colleen Barker, with Vernon Women In Business.

“We are very proud to be able to recognize five deserving nominees for the 27th year of this award.”

Marks is a realtor at Sutton Group, past-president of Kalamalka Rotary and chair of Habitat Champs, which is fundraising for Habitat for Humanity.

Noel has been chairperson of the Queen Silver Star Excellence Program for more than 10 years. She is also a licensed practical nurse and is involved with Mothers March, heart and stroke and diabetes groups.

Kineshanko is president of Kineshanko Logging and a director of Canadian Women in Timber. She has also been on the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation board for 17 years.

Wood owns the Spall Storage Centre in Armstrong, works with Nucerity and is a participant in Relay for Life.

Schratter taught at W.L. Seaton Secondary School for 25 years and she volunteers with the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary, the Vernon Performing Arts Centre and the Salvation Army food bank.

The nominees were recently hosted at the Olive Us Oil and Vinegar Tasting Room and the award recipient will be announced May 8 at the Prestige Hotel.

The recipient will receive pearl necklace set donated by the Sweet Smiles Society and Barrita Durward.

“This event is a one of a kind opportunity to celebrate the impact women have on our business and greater community,” said Barker.

Tickets for the May 8 gala event are on sale now with an early bird rate of $40 until April 30.

Additional event and nominee information can be found at www.vwib.com.

Other event sponsors include Red Door Photographic, Terra Lumina Housing, Catherine Gardens, By Inspired Design and the Prestige Hotel.
