Skier/boarder visits were up this year at Silver Star Mountain Resort.

The resort experienced an overall visitor increase of four per cent during the winter and a 14 per cent hike in nordic skiers.

“What a year it’s been. We opened earlier this season and conditions were consistent throughout,” said Anne Haight, sales and marketing director.

Silver Star’s summer season will begin June 26 with the opening of the bike park.

As part of MTBParks.com’s riders’ choice awards Silver Star’s bike park placed second best in Western Canada. WordBikeParks.com has also named one of the Silver Star bike Park trails to the top 10 bike park trails in North America.

“To be recognized as the second best bike park in Western Canada and not the best, gives us something to work towards,” said Ian Galbraith, summer business manager.

“The bike park is always evolving. We view it as vital element of the overall resort. Riders are going to be like kids in a candy store with all our new changes.”

Silver Star began expansion on its bike park in spring 2013 to introduce a new cross-country, all-mountain riding component to the resort. This new trail network linked already existing trails with new trails. This is now being expanded with a new route to the summit from the village and the creation of a 30-kilometre, single-track trail.
