Flames and smoke have consumed a Coldstream home.

The lone female occupant was able to escape her residence in the Kalview Trailer Park on Clerke Road shortly after the incident began Friday just before 9 a.m.

“I saw fire coming out and then I heard a pop and the fire went totally up,” said Kayla Henessy, a neighbour.

“It was really scary.”

Coldstream, Lavington and Vernon firefighters converged on the scene and began dousing the fire with a mixture of foam retardant and water.

“There was heavy smoke and heavy flames with neighbouring exposures,” said Shane Code, Coldstream fire chief.

A primary goal was to ensure the blaze didn’t spread to the adjoining mobile home and that resulted in crews cutting into the roof and walls of that structure.

“We want to make sure the exposures are under control and avoid a domino affect,” said Code.

With the mobile where the fire originated, the deck and front of the building were destroyed, exposing the blackened interior and its contents. A vehicle in the carport sustained significant damage.

The cause of the fire has not been determined yet.

“It seems like the area of origin was the front of the building but we can’t say why,” said Code.

The property owner is insured but it’s not known if the tenant had content insurance.
