Another suspicious fire is being investigated by the RCMP in Greater Vernon.

On Tuesday, Coldstream firefighters received a report of a large industrial-size dumpster engulfed in flames at a construction site on Graystone Drive at about 11:30 p.m.

“It was chock full of wood and building material. It was a huge fire. It could be seen across the lake,” said Shane Code, Coldstream fire chief.

“It was difficult to get at and it took a few hours to get into and pull apart.”

The fire posed a low to moderate risk to the adjacent structure.

“Given the size of the flames, the embers were within 30 to 50 feet of the building,” said Code.

“It was an unprotected wood-frame house under construction so that was the threat.”

The cause of the fire is considered to be suspicious.

“The RCMP are looking into it,” said Code.

The total number of recent suspicious unsolved fires in the Greater Vernon and Spallumcheen area is in double digits.

“It is unknown if this fire is related to the other suspicious fires we have had over the past month,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.
