Vehicle believed in Shuswap River near Lumby

Authorities have still not located a vehicle believed to have plunged into the Shuswap River near Lumby.

The RCMP received a report of a vehicle leaving the road near the Wiltsey dam Saturday night and going into the river.

"There was a full-blown response," said Pete Wise, search master, of Vernon Search and Rescue, the RCMP, the Lumby Fire Department and the B.C. Ambulance Service.

The vehicle has not been found and it's not known if there was anyone inside the vehicle.

Accessing the vehicle could be extremely difficult for rescue crews.

"It's very deep water and fast moving water," said Wise, adding that one possibility could be to lower a diver into the water by rope.
