Alleged assault of officer lands man in jail

Vernon man facing numerous charges

A Vernon man was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting an RCMP officer Monday.

Vernon RCMP responded shortly after 2 p.m. to a report of a man causing a disturbance in Polson Park.

“Officers arrived on-scene to find the male acting erratically by yelling, dancing around and hitting walls of the (Vernon) Lawn Bowling Club,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau in a media release. “Officers attempted to make contact with the male, however prior to, the male fled on foot.”

Patrols for the man were conducted and he was later located on Highway 6 near The Shops at Polson Park.

The male was known to police to be on court-ordered conditions and was placed under arrest for being in breach of those conditions.

Upon taking the male into custody, he allegedly assaulted a police officer causing the officer to sustain minor injuries.

“The officer received immediate medical treatment for the injuries sustained,” said Linteau.

Ryan Robert Perreault, born in 1991, has been charged with assault of a police officer causing bodily harm, assault with intent to resist arrest, fail to comply with a recognizance and causing a disturbance in a public place.

He has been remanded in custody pending a scheduled court appearance in Vernon Thursday.
