A teenager Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP say was intoxicated spent time in cells sobering up after allegedly assaulting a man with bear spray.

Police say a 17-year-old female called police at 6 p.m. Monday to report her 19-year-old boyfriend had been doused with bear spray by a male on Rotary Pier at Kal Beach.

RCMP attended and the complainant and victim, both residents of Vernon, pointed to a male that was leaving the scene.

“The 15-year-old male, a resident of Alberta, was arrested for assault and being intoxicated in public,” said RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk. “The suspect was transported to cells. RCMP spoke to both the victim and witness and they declined to provide a statement regarding the pepper spraying incident.”

There were no injuries and the B.C. Ambulance Service was declined.

The suspect was lodged in cells for being intoxicated in a public place, for which he was issued a violation ticket, and was released when sober.
